"The photographer does not create the image - It is merely borrowed from God!"
A journey of the Earth, the Sea and the Sky
Through my eyes
By way of introduction, I am Dwain Shaw. By vocation, I am a Director of Information Technology for a large academic medical center. By avocation, I am a producer of fine art through the magic of digital photography. I do have an undergraduate degree in art, and a graduate degree in technology. As I had a hard time getting the image in my head out of my hand, I set aside art for many years until digital photography was introduced. Suddenly the left and right sides of my brain are finally in harmony and now work together to help me produce the beauty that I see in nature.
My art is based on Rod McKuen's trilogy, The Earth, The Sea and The Sky. As an old romantic, I hear his words sing and want my images to reflect his words and thoughts. For those that do not know Mr. McKuen, he was (and still is) a poet, song writer and singer of the 60s, at a time when the world needed gentleness. His words evoke emotion. I am told by my critics that my work does too. If so, I have succeeded in providing pleasure, through my art.
I like to think of myself as both a student and a teacher. I have studied under many of America's greatest nature photographers and have been encouraged by them to take my art to the next level. I have written tutorials and given classes on my art. I have had many exhibitions, but none as special as that cited by the governing accrediting body for the nation’s hospitals when they wrote that art does indeed have a healing affect & has its place as a unique healer. It was my exhibit that promoted the comment. I have also won national awards, appeared in national magazines, been there & done that. The journey has been fun, but as long as we still need the Ansel Adams & Eliot Porters to influence the pleasure that nature gives us, I will continue to get up early for the sunrise and stay out late for the sunset. It is my challenge to bring the art of nature that I offer to you, through my eyes. Enjoy!
